The small, vibrant, rural K-8 school’s mission has a focus on science and sustainability, and a key element of the school’s educational philosophy is “inquiry-based learning” that leverages ready access to local environmental resources for science instruction and collaborations with UC Merced.

Erika Miranda, a 5-6th teacher from SFCS and Teena Starchman, a 3-4th grade teacher have participated through the NSF schoolhouseResearch Experiences for Teachers program.
